My mom has been making this forever and it's one of our favorite desserts. She typically makes it with Cherry pie filling but FI's family loves apples, so I've made it with apple pie filling as well.
Ingredients
2 cans pie filling (any flavors) -- I normally use Comstock.
1 box spice cake mix ( you can use yellow or vanilla, but I like the spice best)
1/2 cup butter melted
In a 13 x 9 pan spread pie filling. Sprinkle DRY cake mix over top. Drizzle butter over mixture in a criss cross pattern. Bake at 350 for 40 mins. You can serve this warm or cold. If you choose cold, let cool and then put in the fridge.
You can add chopped nuts or flaked cocunt over top as well. If you choose to do this, add these toppings BEFORE drizzlinng with butter.
